Added ten new scans from New Warriors #11.

DocArzt, a fairly reliable spoiler and news source for the TV show Lost, has a new scoop regarding Dominic Monaghan's role in the upcoming Wolverine movie. Here's an excerpt:
Apparently, Dom's part in the movie is larger than what people were estimating. There is speculation he may even be Wolverine's side-kick in the movie. As for his name, originally he was called 'Beak', but due to some copyright issues he has been renamed! The new name is either Blackwing or Blackpool.
It's advisable to take this with a grain of salt, of course, until we get confirmation from more official sources. But it's still a tidbit worth speculating on. It's too bad they're not going with the name Beak, but if the news is true, it does seem that the character Monaghan will be playing is Barnell Bohusk. Here's hoping he's not a completely bastardized version of the comic book character we all know and love.

Added a pretty bad-ass piece of fan art by Roho to the Fan Art Gallery. I wish Marvel would take notes. This is the Beak I want. I'd trade a hundred Barrys for this Beak.
I've also added a new member to the fanlisting, the abovementioned fan artist himself. Welcome, Roho!

Dominic Monaghan, who plays Barnell in the upcoming Wolverine movie, appeared on the Tonight Show recently. He didn't talk much about his role, except to say how much he enjoyed working with Hugh Jackman. He's already done filming, so apparently his role is pretty small. Hope he got a few good lines in, at least. You can watch the video of his interview here.

According to Just Jared, Dominic Monaghan of Lost and Lord of the Rings fame has been cast as Beak in the upcoming Wolverine movie. I'm waiting for an announcement from a more official source before I start celebrating, but if this is true, then this is so freaking awesome on so many levels.
Beak! In the Wolverine movie! And played by an actor I like! I don't care if it's a two-second cameo (though Monaghan is fairly well-known so I would hope it's at least a speaking cameo), it would still make me giddy with glee. Plus Monaghan's got a potato nose. That's not exactly the same as Beak's schnoz, but I'll take what I can get.
If this is true, then I hope the guys behind Wolverine do the character justice. I'm not entirely sure what form he'll be taking. His pre-Decimation look would be hard to pull off without using a buttload of CGI, so my guess is he'll be an average-looking schmoe like he was post-Decimation, but able to transform into his pre-Decimation avian appearance. I hope they give him a baseball bat. I hope they give him an accent. But most of all, I hope they get his personality right.
UPDATE: Variety is reporting the same thing. Here's a snippet from the article:
Monaghan will play Barnell, a mysterious character from Wolverine's past who has the ability to manipulate energy and electricity.
That... sounds nothing like Beak. Could the reports have been mistaken about Beak being the character Monaghan plays? Or did they completely redo Barnell to make him a more powerful mutant? I'm not sure which I'd prefer. On one hand, it would be cool to have any incarnation of Beak on the silver screen. On the other hand, a Beak who's not bird-like (and the Variety article made no mention of his unusual physiology) might as well not be Beak at all.
Watch this space for more news as it turns up.

"THRASHED" Part 4
When Night Thrasher offered them the opportunity to become super heroes once more, they leapt at the chance. They placed their trust in him. Running scared, trapped in the lair of a super-villain who's out of their league. And the only man who can save them is Night Thrasher. But if he forsakes their trust this time, it's their lives.

Marvel.com has a five-part feature on its teen teams. Part 3 focuses on the New Warriors and can be read here. Here's a snippet from the article that mentions Beak:
Financed and assembled by a new Night Thrasher, aka Donyell Taylor, brother of the original, former X-Men and Xavier Institute students Jubilee, aka Wondra, Chamber, aka Decibel, Beak, aka Blackwing and Angel, aka Tempest, rank as the group's strongest members.
The article also has a 4-page preview of New Warriors #9. Below are the pages that feature Blackwing.

Five Ways Barry is Like the Old Barnell.
January 19, 2008
Added twelve new scans from New Warriors #8. I have to say, I enjoyed this issue a lot. Mystery, intrigue, family togetherness, team downtime... what's not to like? And I maintain, there's nothing quite as adorable as a devoted husband and father, and Barnell tops the list as far as comic book characters go. I just have one complaint.
Stretchy, skintight manpris.
Now, I can excuse a hell of a lot. I can suspend my disbelief a long way if it means getting my monthly Beak fix. Beak's gotten all studly because his body slowly devolved from its bird-like appearance even after he lost his mutation? Sure, why not? Stranger things have happened. He and Angel are now loving and affectionate? Well, they were both pretty broken up after he got recruited into the Exiles, and absence does make the heart grow fonder. I can buy it.
But I will never, ever in a million years believe that Beak would willingly get into a pair of stretchy manpris. I can fanwank the changes in his looks and personality between Decimation and his first appearance in New Warriors. But this... I just... no. Straight edge, hardcore punk rockers do not wear stretchy manpris. It boggles the mind. And burns my eyeballs.
So for the sake of my own sanity, I'm begging the powers at Marvel never to put Barnell in these things again. Stick to pants, please. By which I mean regular pants. Nothing that puts Beak's junk on such obvious display. Think of his children. No kid wants to see that much of their father.
I will say that I like how his ass looks in it. But you can achieve that effect with a good pair of jeans. There's no need to resort to Lycra spandex. Those things are nobody's friends.

Another year, another news page. As usual, older news items can be viewed in the Archive. I've added ten new scans from New Warriors #7, as well as four scans from the one-shot Exiles: Days of Then and Now, in which an evil alternate universe Beak makes a brief appearance. I've also uploaded the issue's cover to the cover gallery.
I've updated the Writers page with info on Mike Raicht, who wrote the Exiles one-shot, as well as the Artists page with info on Jon Malin and Zach Howard's depictions of Beak. The Alternate Versions page has also been updated with a brief profile of evil Beak. Dude scares me. I don't think I've ever realized until now just how frightening Beak could actually look.
